Rachel, Maud & Mahler and the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, 2011

All-Beethoven program commemorating the 150th anniversary of Gustav Mahler's birth by largely replicating the New York Philharmonic program of December 31st, 1909, in which Maud Powell was the soloist in the Beethoven Violin Concerto with Gustav Mahler conducting.  Maud Powell called this performance "one of the supreme moments" of her artistic career.  Click here to read the fascinating story of how Gustav Mahler's initial antipathy toward Maud Powell (because she was an American and a woman at that daring to play Beethoven!) melted into mutual admiration and deeply felt artistic kinship.
